Matt Grogan
Principal Lawyer (Beechworth, Yackandandah, Myrtleford)
Matt is currently the principal solicitor at Halliday Solicitors. As a lawyer Matt loves being entrusted to support people navigating important events in their life. He is passionate about renewable energy, community wealth building, business startups, governance, and succession planning. He is a strategic thinker, known for providing honest and practical legal advice and support.
Matt is actively involved in his local community, serving as a founding member of Totally Renewable Yackandandah, Indigo Power, and is currently on the board of BankWAW. Matt grew up in Wangaratta, and completed his legal training at Monash University. He has had a previous life as a market garden entrepreneur, and as a policy officer at the Murray Darling Basin Authority. Matt lives in beautiful Staghorn Flat outside of Yackandandah with his partner Tamsin, and two kids.
Karen Kneebone
Conveyancer (Myrtleford)
Karen is one of the most experienced conveyancers in North East Victoria, having practised at law firms across North East Victoria for 35 years. She joined ACM Conveyancing in May 2020, and became part of the Halliday Solicitors team in 2023. Karen enjoys helping clients with buying and selling properties, and despite over 35 years experience, she says that there is always something new to learn! Karen has always called the North East home, and now lives in Whorouly with her family. When she’s not working, you’ll find Karen spending time with her family, reading, playing badminton, or supporting the Whorouly netball club.
Kylie Neil
Conveyancer (Beechworth)
Kylie has been with Halliday Solicitors since 2015. She is responsible for making sure everything in the office runs smoothly – from HR and payroll, to office administration and file management. She manages a growing conveyancing practice in our Beechworth office.
Kylie likes being able to help people with big life changes, and says that the people of North East Victoria are some of the best! When she’s not at work, Kylie loves exploring the valleys, rivers and mountains of the North East with her husband and three kids; or you can find her out in her veggie garden in Beechworth.
Brooke Favaro
Legal Executive (Beechworth)
Brooke commenced with Halliday Solicitors in March 2024 as Principal Lawyer Matt Grogan’s executive assistant and works full time from our Beechworth office. Brooke assists Matt on a daily basis together with reception duties. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws part time through Charles Sturt University and aspires to practice as a solicitor after completing her degree. Brooke has a passion for assisting locals and making their legal matters run as seamlessly as possible. Brooke is a Myrtleford local and when she isn’t at work or studying, she is usually cooking her favourite Italian meals, spending time with her family or at her partner Tom’s soccer match.
Alanna Mclees
Estates Law Graduate (Myrtleford)
Alanna is the founder of ACM Conveyancing in Myrtleford, which merged with Halliday Solicitors in January 2023. As a long time conveyancer, Alanna became interested in legal practice, and completed her Law degree and diploma of Conveyancing through Deakin University. She has undertaken her supervised legal training under Matt Grogan, and has a particular interest in the Estates practice at Halliday Solicitors. Since the merger she’s enjoyed being exposed to the wide practice areas at Halliday Solicitors, and refining her skills as a lawyer in training. She lives in Myrtleford with her teenage children, and loves walking, camping around the hills and rivers of North East Victoria, and drinking chai at Cafe Chulo in Myrtleford.
Megan Mihaljevic
Wills clerk (Beechworth)
Megan was part of the administrative staff in the early 2000s with the original Halliday Solicitor, Brendan Halliday. She returned to the practice in 2021, and quickly gained an interest in overseeing the Halliday wills practice. As a long time local, she likes that she knows many of the Halliday clients who walk in the door. She enjoys helping people when they are experiencing change – happy or sad; and loves being part of an interesting and dynamic team.
Megan is proud to live in the best part of Australia, North East Victoria (no bias here) – where you get four incredible seasons, beautiful food and wine, while only being three hours from Melbourne. When she’s not at work you’ll find her walking on the many trails around Beechworth, or paddleboarding on Lake Sambell.
Jen Chambeyron
Conveyancer (Beechworth)
Jen is a long time Beechworth Local, who has been with Halliday Solicitors since 2006, when she worked in an administrative capacity with founder Brendan Halliday. Jen credits Brendan as a great employer, who taught her to think for herself. On the job training led Jen into a conveyancing role in 2008, and she has been the Beechworth office’s resident conveyancing expert since then.
She loves the close client contact, and helping people navigate important parts of their lives: buying and selling homes. She loves the independence and self direction that comes with her role, and the flexibility. Jen is born and raised in Beechworth, and has a deep connection with the community. When she’s not at work she’s working on her cattle farm that she runs with her husband outside of Beechworth, caravanning around Australia, or fishing in a river somewhere!
